Lord Mark Price, as a previous Minister for International Trade and former managing director of Waitrose, is now going to be writing 37 books over the next 10 years. So, on October 11th during Wimbledon Bookfest, we were privileged to hear him speak about his first business book – Fairness for All. Drawing on his experience at Waitrose and the John Lewis Partnership it was hardly surprising to him say that “your business is your people”. This to me is all about the brand – and what we as customers come to expect from a business. So I am definitely with him on that one – and as we are running a Workshop on How to Build and Manage Your Brand (15 November 9.30am to 12.30pm) there is no better time for you to find out more!
Asked about Brexit, his view was pretty optimistic. Outlining that business is a force for good (and all those taxes we pay to support public services) means that the Government needs to be supportive of business. Productivity needs to go up and businesses need to behave as global operators and be competitive. So who performs that function in a business? Well, of course, it’s the people- and happy people are more productive and are the backbone for any business to grow and compete. Over 60 business people attended the event and I think we all went away with some interesting insights as to how business can perform better by focusing on their people over profit and the return to investors!
