What does GDPR actually mean to your business?
This interactive tutorial session asks the question: ‘Is your business ready for GDPR?’. The session will allow you to explore the realities of compliance, and help you begin to unravel the myths around GDPR and how to avoid high level fines.
Prior to the tutorial you will receive an assessment/audit to complete; this will assist you to produce a specific action plan for your organisation which will put you in a position to go away and consider implementing to facilitate your journey towards compliance. Additionally, you will be better equipped to understand the additional tools and processes that you may require to assist in your compliance plans.
With the EU General Data Protection Regulations coming into force, this will be the first time in over 20 years that laws governing data protection will be updated.
The existing EU Directives date back to 1995, when Google wasn’t even born; Amazon was a small online bookseller and Mark Zuckerberg was still in high school!
Fast forwarding to now; we see that a large majority of purchases are now made online. The average adult has between 95-130 online accounts and “Big Data” together with advances in technology means greater opportunities for harvesting data.
Put simply, GDPR brings reality into line with the law and when you compare this reality to the rhetoric, it is a common sense solution that needs a common sense approach. In its simplest form, GDPR gives consumers greater control on the data that organisations hold on them and that they are able to exercise their rights under the law.
