It was an early start on Thursday 15th October, but delegates attending the launch of the Merton Healthy Workplaces Service were rewarded with a mouthwatering, health-boosting breakfast, and the chance to find out more about how to improve the wellbeing credentials of their businesses.

Research shows that healthy staff make more productive, happier employees, and that was the message attendees took away with them – along with the inspiration to get involved in the zero-cost service, which comes with official backing from London Borough of Merton Council and the Greater London Authority.

‘Next step: get involved!’ – was the call to action from the Chamber’s Healthy Workplaces Consultant Nicola Davenport.

“It’s a no-brainer,” she told the gathering, which was held at Wimbledon Park Golf Club. “Your staff are your business. Nurture them and you WILL reap the rewards. Whatever your workplace goals, having a healthier team benefits everyone.”

Stands at the event, informally dubbed ‘Start Your Day The Right Way’, gave delegates the chance to consult Wimbledon-based fitness team FitState, award-winning Wimbledon Physiotherapy, and learn more about the training opportunities at Holistic Fitness. Gina Conway therapists were on hand to give de-stressing shoulder massages, Nuffield Health experts offered mini health checks, and the chance to sample the wellbeing goodness of tasty treats from clean-eats company Superfoodio, helped set the tone for a wholesome start to the day.

LiveWell’s Sierien Razak offered businesses and organisations across the borough the chance to plug into a funded health improvement service that is tailored to meet individual needs in areas including weight management, smoking cessation and nutritional advice. Merton’s Director of Public Health underlined her support for the Healthy Workplaces Services and urged everyone to join the borough-wide Merton on the Move campaign to increase activity levels and take part in some healthy step-logging competition.

Signing up to the Healthy Workplaces Service is a way for Merton businesses to access free info, advice and motivation that will improve wellbeing levels among staff, reward companies for adopting healthy practices and can ultimately lead to official accreditation under the capital’s Healthy Workplaces Charter.
