Merton Chamber AGM kicks off a summer of networking!

A fabulous evening was had on Tuesday 5th June as Merton Chamber of Commerce celebrated 26 years at its AGM and Networking Evening.  Taking place at the picturesque Hotel Du Vin, Cannizaro House, the sun was shining, spirits were high and businesses from across the borough heard from Chief Executive Diana Sterck and new Chair John Merriman, owner of Crown Lane Studio, about Merton Chamber’s achievements to date and plans for the future.

Guests heard that Merton Chamber continues to lead the charts in being the largest area based Chamber of Commerce in London, with 650 members, including 20 Premier members. Over 1600 people attended networking events, training workshop and the Merton Best Business Awards events during the year. The Chamber continues to innovate to meet local business needs, and has recently introduced new services including Take One and Merton Giving.

In his role as Chair John Merriman said “The challenges for the chamber, and many organisations across the borough, are very real. I shall be taking the responsibility of chairing the chamber very seriously to ensure it is relevant, and continues to respond to the needs of businesses in and around the borough. It was great to meet so many business decision makers at the AGM, and I hope the chamber is inspired by the evolving vision for MCC. I think together, we have a very bright future, and I look forward to the challenge.”

The evening concluded with a celebration of action Merton businesses are taking to reduce the blight of plastics in the local area – something that the Chamber has been working closely on with local charity Sustainable Merton and their #plasticfreemerton campaign. With local solicitors – Peacock and Co – sponsoring the networking section of the event, they distributed re-usable bags to the audience to demonstrate their support.
