Notification of major gas works: West Barnes Lane area of Raynes Park – UPDATE Thursday 4 April
“I am writing to provide you with an update regarding our gas network upgrade in the West Barnes Lane area of Raynes Park.
While working onsite on West Barnes Lane, our engineers have encountered some engineering difficulties. During the Easter Holidays we will need to install temporary two-way traffic lights in West Barnes Lane outside West Wimbledon Primary School, to allow the transfer of the local schools supplies and to complete further mains insertion.
To avoid further disruption to the area, we will be working in collaboration of Thames Water and Conway’s who will also be carrying out necessary work at this junction.
We will need to suspend some parking bays outside Trafalgar Court, West Barnes Lane to safely store our equipment.
Following consultation with London Borough of Merton Council the upgrade to our network at the Coombe Lane junction has been postponed. We are continuing to plan further phases of our work with the local authority and we will provide details of our plans once confirmed. All our works will be suspended over the Wimbledon Championships during the summer.
We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Raynes Park residents will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
