Wimbledon BookFest welcomes Simon Bradley, one of Britain’s foremost experts on the railways who will speak at the Big Tent on Thursday 6th October at 6.30pm. At a time when the future of the railways is a hotly debated topic, this event promises to be both informative and entertaining. It is sponsored by FW: Future Wimbledon.
With the advent of Crossrail 2 this timely event examines the impact the railways have had on Britain’s trade, tourism and time. A vital part of national life for nearly 200 years, the railways have transformed lives and landscapes. As a self-contained world governed by distinctive rules and traditions, the network also exerts a fascination all its own. Simon Bradley’s book ‘The Railways’ was the Sunday Times History Book of the Year 2015 and a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week.
FW: Future Wimbledon ignites debate about and generates visions of how Wimbledon town centre might evolve and attract economic growth over the next 15 years, with the advent of Crossrail 2. See www.futurewimbledon.co.uk for more information.
