Oh come all ye faithful!
Choirs from The Study Wimbledon and Bishop Gilpin CoE Primary in Merton will perform a collection of Christmas carols and readings at Wimbledon Guild’s annual Carol Service on Thursday 7 December at St Mark’s Church, Wimbledon at 6.30pm (doors open 6pm).
As in previous years, all proceeds from the carol service will go to Wimbledon Guild, Merton’s social welfare charity, and visitors of all ages can join in the festive fun and catch up over mince pies and drinks following the service. The Mayor of Merton, Councillor Marsie Skeete will also be in attendance.
The Wimbledon Guild Carol Service, sponsored by local companies Parkside Hospital, Bells Surveyors, and Clear Insurance Management, is one of the charity’s main fundraising events of the year and comes at a time when they see an increase in people visiting their headquarters at Guild House on Worple Road as Wendy Pridmore, chief executive, explains:
“Whilst Christmas is a joyous occasion for most of us, at Wimbledon Guild we are reminded daily this is not always the case. Every year we see clients coming to us who are struggling to cope with everyday life: whether through monetary hardship, a mental health issue, or quite simply they have no one to turn to at this time of year and feel extraordinarily lonely.
“Through fundraising activities like our carol service, we can continue our work to ensure we help as many people as we can and make a tangible difference to their lives.
“Our thanks to Reverend Clive Gardner for allowing us to host our carol service in such a lovely setting: to the pupils and teachers of both The Study Wimbledon and Bishop Gilpin Primary School; and of course to our corporate sponsors of the event: Parkside Hospital; Bells Surveyors; and Clear Insurance Management.
“It will be a truly wonderful evening, capturing the spirit of Christmas, whilst taking the opportunity to help and remember those who may not be as fortunate as others.”
