Member Spotlight: AFC Wimbledon

Merton Chamber of Commerce spoke with Jack Briggs, Senior Commercial Executive at AFC Wimbledon, about working for the much-loved local football team and their focus for the off-season.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your business?

My name is Jack and I have recently joined the commercial team here at AFC Wimbledon as a Senior Commercial Executive. My background comes from the skiing world, where after University I worked for an international ski school in the French Alps across two winter seasons.

To provide an overview of the business, AFC Wimbledon is a professional football team that currently plays in the third tier of the professional football leagues in England. We are proud to have one of the most unique stories in football, as we operate as one of only two majority fan-owned clubs in the entire English Football League.

My role at the football club covers many different things, however, my primary objective is to maintain relationships with current partners and sponsors of the club and to develop new relationships with businesses that are interested in joining our story at the club.

What do you enjoy most about working for AFC Wimbledon?

The best part about working for the football club for me is being able to play my part in the development of the story here at AFC Wimbledon. The club has come such a long way since reforming in 2002 and despite continued progress, has never strayed away from the core values that the club was built on.

It is really exciting to be able to represent a club that means so much to so many people. Both in the local area and internationally, you’ll often find that the AFC Wimbledon fan in the room is the most passionate one!

Another aspect of my role that has been enjoyable has been the number of conversations I’ve been fortunate to have with a variety of different business owners and decision makers across a wide range of industries. At networking events like those put on by the Merton Chamber, I’ve really had an opportunity to expand my network and gain a deeper understanding of the businesses in and around Merton.

What challenges have you faced along the way?

I think the main challenge with working in any sports industry is the pace of the environment. In sport, everything moves at a rapid pace, and you really have to be engaged and on the ball to keep up.

What is your advice for others, based on your career so far?

I think advice from my career thus far would be to not be afraid to make mistakes. Throw yourself into everything with the best of your ability and it doesn’t work out, figure out why it didn’t work and try again!

What’s coming up in 2026 for AFC Wimbledon?

With our win away against Wigan recently, we secured another season of League One football for the Wimbledon faithful.

Following our final fixture against Huddersfield, we will continue to dedicate our efforts to the off-season development of the club. From booking and delivering play on the pitch opportunities for local and national businesses to the onboarding and set up of new partners, there will be plenty of work for us to get through in this off-season.

What do you like about being a member of the Chamber?

The best part of being a member of the Merton Chamber of Commerce is being able to come together at frequent events to meet and develop relationships with businesses that also have strong ties into the community of Merton. We are a club and a business that places community at the heart of what we do and it is so great to be able to network and meet with other businesses that share that emphasis on being a pillar for their community.
