Merton Chamber of Commerce spoke with Kayleigh Mardell, Director of Jayserv, a family-run mechanical and electrical business. .

She tells us about the company’s impressive growth and how their people-focused approach has underpinned their success

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your business?

I’m Kayleigh, and I run Jayserv Mechanical & Electrical Limited, a family-driven mechanical and electrical company that’s grown far faster than I ever expected when we first started. We specialise in commercial gas, plumbing, heating, electrical and AC work, mainly across schools, commercial buildings and busy facilities that need things fixed yesterday.

What makes us proudest is that we’ve kept our close-knit, family feel even as the team grows. Our engineers genuinely care about the job they do, and our clients know they can rely on us to turn up, sort it out, and communicate clearly from start to finish.

What do you enjoy most about running your business?

I love the variety, no two days are ever the same, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. One moment we’re helping a school with no heating, the next we’re planning a new installation or supporting a client through a tricky breakdown.

I also really enjoy the people side of business: building a team, watching their confidence grow, and creating an environment where everyone feels valued. There’s something very special about seeing the company evolve and knowing you helped shape it.

What challenges have you faced along the way?

Running a growing SME means you learn very quickly to juggle staffing, regulations, deadlines, clients, and everything in between. Growth has been exciting but also demanding and finding the right people with the right mindset is always a challenge in our industry.

We’ve also had to refine processes as we’ve scaled, making sure we maintain the quality and communication we’re known for. It hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has pushed us to improve, be more organised, and ultimately run a stronger business.

What is your advice to other SMEs?

Don’t underestimate the power of consistency and grit. Keep showing up, keep improving, and keep talking to your customers. Surround yourself with people who know more than you in certain areas, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Also, look after your team. A business only grows if the people within it grow too.

What’s coming up in 2026 for Jayserv?

2026 is shaping up to be a big year for us. We’re expanding our air-conditioning services in-house, creating more roles, and developing new office space to support our team and improve the way we deliver projects.

We’re also focusing on refreshing our brand and strengthening our presence across the South East, especially after some major contract wins that have opened the door to even bigger opportunities.

What do you like about being a member of the Chamber?

I really value the sense of community. Being part of the Chamber gives us access to businesses who are open, supportive, and keen to collaborate. I haven’t been able to attend as many events as I would have liked, but that is because the Chamber has opened a completely different way of thinking for me and I have been so busy since attending my first event.

It’s great to be part of an organisation that actively champions local business and gives SMEs a platform to grow, learn, and connect.
