Can you tell us a little about yourself and your business? 

I’m Nazmin Choudhry, founder of NC Law. I am a British Bangladeshi female born and raised in Wandsworth since 1966. Earlsfield has a special place in my life, as I attended Earlsfield Primary School, and my father named the well-known Indian restaurant on Garratt Lane called Nazmin’s, after me, and my office is close by.  At 22 I became the Chair of the Tooting and Balham Law Centre, attained a law degree, and qualified as a solicitor in 1992 and after working for prestigious law firms I established my own law firm in 2010. I also managed to raise a family of three children. Having had “imposter syndrome” for years, I am now acknowledging that I am the first British Bangladeshi qualified solicitor, and a female entrepreneur serving the community. I have also established a charity called Swansong, to give back to rural areas in Bangladesh, following my father’s legacy of being proudly British but aware of your roots. I often visit Bangladesh to facilitate the provision of housing, clean water and education for girls as well as help with medical treatment. The name SWANSONG (Supporting Women And Newborns and Supporting Other Necessary Groups) is for the fact that this charity is my swansong as I head to the later years of my career. My late father was a big believer in giving back to your community and believed you could only make a great impact in the world through education and compassion. I also do charitable legal work through will aid and support Macmillan Cancer Support.

NC Law Solicitors began in 2010 and for the last 15 years has served not only clients in Wandsworth but all over the country and the world through its reputation, word of mouth and referrals. It is the only law firm on Garratt Lane, offering services from residential and commercial conveyancing, dispute resolution and personal injury litigation, wills, and probate. Nothing is too small or too complicated, and we often work on ad hoc requests such as Stat Dec’s, ID1s, certification of documents, independent legal advice, as well as providing free advice for people who just want to pop in and ask a question. We are a small firm with four employees including a receptionist, two legal assistants, a conveyancing assistant, as well as myself as a Principal Solicitor. 

Each year the firm has thrived in its growth and financial stability. The majority of our clients have been with us for over 15 years and often recommend us to friends and neighbours. We are also part of the Will Aid scheme, and we are accredited by the Law Society for holding the Conveyancing Quality Standard (CQS) as well as being an accredited expert of ALEP – the Association for Leasehold Estate Practitioners in dealing with leasehold estates. The vision for our firm is to continue to be a pillar of the community in Earlsfield and the surrounding areas, serving as many members of the community as possible with relevant legal needs while continuing to grow and expand. I also mentor young people who aspire to be solicitors and provide work placements for local students to gain experience.

What do you enjoy most about running your business? 

I have been a lawyer for over 35 years now, and there is a lot of passion for the work that I do that has led me to such a fruitful career. The thing that I enjoy the most about running my business is being able to help people. Many people come into the office with legal issues and being able to assist them is incredibly fulfilling.

I enjoy having the freedom to be able to pursue my philanthropic passions and being able to dedicate time, resources and finances towards that area of my life. I enjoy working with my team who help manage my day to day so that I can do what I love.

What challenges have you faced along the way? 

I am a hardworking person who has faced many challenges in my life, yet through that I managed to achieve much success. I believe that I am the first female Bangladeshi lawyer to qualify in the UK, as I qualified in 1990, during a time where many British Asian women were not encouraged to study and fulfil their dreams, where I faced a lot of racism and sexism.

The qualities that I have developed along the way include integrity, compassion, resilience, learning agility, showing gratitude, accountability, adaptability and empathy. These are all qualities that I have gained throughout my life and continue to use not only throughout my work but through my personal life too.

I believe that a strong business owner leads by example but also guides the firm through challenges with a clear vision and strategic direction whilst also teaching the staff so they are equipped with tools. The vision I have is to continue to be a pillar of the community, helping people where we can whilst holding empathy and professionalism.

What is your advice to other SMEs? 

Try to give back to communities that need it the most, whether that is locally or internationally. Giving back should not just be a CSR strategy but should come from the heart to help others. When attending networking events, try to speak to everyone, uplift each other’s businesses and work out a way to collaborate with each other.

What’s coming up in 2026 for NC Law?

My vision includes maintaining a high standard of ethics and ensuring we continue to work with integrity while providing a high level of client service as well as encouraging a positive work environment so that NC Law is not only a pleasant experience for clients but also members of staff.

This year my goal is to become more charitable to the local community, I started at the end of last year with the Macmillan Tea Party. Our firm gains the majority of its clients through word of mouth, and I believe that is a testament to our firm’s work and attitude towards clients.

What do you like about being a member of the Chamber? 

Networking. Meeting so many new people and seeing how they are making their mark in the world, as well as how we can all collaborate and support one another.
