Redefining Dental Care: Wimbledon’s Holistic Dentist on Trust and Well-Being
Merton Chamber of Commerce had the pleasure of speaking with Dr Pooja Pillay, co-founder of a holistic dental practice based in Wimbledon.
Pooja shares how she and her sister combined their passion for dentistry with a patient-first philosophy to create a practice focused on trust, transparency, and well-being. In this interview, we explore her journey from clinician to entrepreneur, the values behind her holistic approach, and the insights she’s gained while building a people-centred business in the heart of the community.

Can you tell us a little about yourself and your business?
I’ve been a dentist for 15 years, working across England and Scotland, and I’m passionate about providing exceptional patient care. My sister, a dentist, and I wanted to create a practice that puts patients first, offering high-quality, ethical, and transparent treatment. When we found the perfect location in Wimbledon, we knew it was the right place to bring our vision to life. Our goal was to build a welcoming practice where trust, affordability, and top-tier dentistry go hand in hand.
What do you enjoy most about running your business?
I love seeing my practice grow, not just in size but in impact. Building a team that shares my values has been incredibly fulfilling. I also enjoy engaging with the local community, working with patients from all backgrounds, and learning from other business owners. Running my own practice has pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow as both a dentist and a business owner.

What challenges have you faced since starting the business?
Balancing affordability with high-quality care has been an important focus from day one. We wanted to ensure patients received excellent treatment without barriers, which meant carefully managing costs while investing in the best materials and technology. Building the right team has also been key—finding professionals who share our values and commitment to patient care. As we continue to grow and expand, maintaining that personal, high-standard experience remains our priority.
What is your advice to other SMEs?
Have a strong plan and do your research. Speak to others in your industry, shadow professionals, and build a support network. The first two years can be tough, so financial and emotional support is crucial. Networking is invaluable—learning from others will save you time and mistakes. If you’re passionate, take the leap, but be prepared for the challenges.
What do you like about being a member of the Chamber?
The Chamber has been an incredible resource. I didn’t realise how strong the Wimbledon business community was until I joined. The networking events have introduced me to amazing people and opened doors to new opportunities. It’s a great way to stay connected, learn from others, and grow both personally and professionally.
